Nearly everyone uses it. Yet not missing the obvious seems to be a rarer and rarer skill.
A lot of time, effort, money and trouble is expended to get people to spend their money and time - all that they will ever have - for the benefit of someone else.

A large conventional bomb could likely seal the well head. The flow must be stopped, and stopped soon, so that the problem stabilizes, and the cleanup can begin. This really is a matter of national security, environmental and economic, and securing the nation's food supply.
The second would require the cooperation of the British Government, as BP is a British Corporation. It is unprecedented but so is the situation. If the cooperation is not secured, as much of BP's assets as possible should be seized and liquidated to indemnify environmental and personal losses from this disaster. If cooperation is secured, a stock freeze while new management and board are installed, new bylaws enacted, and a set percentage of BP profits goes to indemnify the spill loses forever, administered through a not for profit.
BP have proven that they are totally unequal to managing this disaster, or just managing a major company period.
Prosecution and jail terms (no Club Feds allowed!) of five years minimum (serve all five) should follow rapidly for extreme malfeasance.
While we dither, an ecosystem which is one of the richest on Earth is bleeding to death in plain sight.
The status quo will kill us as well.
